Spinosaurus (scientific name: Spinosaurus, from the Greek for "spiny reptile") was a megalosauroid theropod dinosaur that inhabited North Africa during the mid-Cretaceous period (specifically, the Cenomanian stage, between 95 and 93 million years ago). Fossils have been found in Niger, Egypt, and Morocco. Spinosaurus belonged to the family Spinosauridae and was closely related to Baryonyx, Suchomimus, and Irritator.
