Cross section of an Atlasaurus imelakei dinosaur bone. It measures 19 x 6.5 cm and 1 cm thick. The bone trabeculae are perfectly differentiated.

Atlasaurus imelakei (gr. “giant Atlas reptile”), lived in the middle of the Jurassic period, in Africa. Its remains were found by Monbaron, Russell and Taquet in 1999 in the Tiougguit Formation of the Atlas Mountains in the Azilal Province, Morocco in northern Africa. Its generic name comes from Titan Atlas who held the sky on his back, and from the Arabic Imelake which means giant.
