Characteristics

Pathological tooth of a giant mackerel shark: Otodus obliquus (Agassiz, 1843).

This tooth exhibits severe pathology. It is 100% complete, with no restorations or repairs. It is exceptionally perfect. The tooth measures 5.2 cm high x 3.2 cm wide.

Pathological teeth are formed due to disease or deformity of the shark's jawline, where the teeth grow to accommodate the intrusion. They are among the rarest and most unusual teeth known, and these from Morocco are some of the highest quality known worldwide.
