- Shungite is a mineraloid consisting of more than 98 weight percent carbon. It is considered one of the oldest minerals on Earth. It is the only one that contains fullerenes or fullerenes, a type of molecular form of carbon discovered in 1985 and highlighted in the scientific world for its chemical, physical and aesthetic characteristics, and on which new studies in nanotechnology and medicine are based. Crystallized shungite contains about 80% fullerenes, uncrystallized shungite contains 30% fullerenes.
